Abstract

The ongoing transition in energy landscapes within the Global South poses multifaceted implications, particularly regarding food safety measures and gender dynamics. This article critically examines the intersecting realms of energy transition, forensics, gender, and food safety. It delves into the intricate web of how the shifting energy paradigms influence food safety practices and the often overlooked, disparate impacts experienced by genders within communities. Through an exploration of changing energy infrastructures and their consequent effects on food safety standards, this work sheds light on the nuanced gender perspectives in the Global South. Drawing upon empirical data and case studies, it delineates the differential impacts of energy transitions on genders concerning food safety vulnerabilities, risks, and adaptations. Furthermore, this article proposes gender-sensitive strategies and policy interventions aimed at bolstering inclusive food safety measures amidst evolving energy sources and infrastructure. It advocates for the integration of forensic methodologies and gender-inclusive approaches to not only identify but effectively mitigate gender-specific food safety concerns in the wake of energy transition projects. Ultimately, this contribution underscores the imperative for collaborative efforts, involving policymakers, practitioners, and researchers, to holistically address the gendered impacts of energy transition on food safety. By amalgamating insights from gender studies, forensic science, and energy policies, this work advocates for comprehensive approaches to safeguarding food safety, ensuring equity, and fostering resilience in the evolving energy landscape of the Global South.
